Salary: Master Pay Scale Point 16 ($20,780) to Master Pay Scale Point 27 ($34,895) per month

Entry Requirements: (a) A bachelor’s degree from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent (Note 1); and (b) ‘Level 2’ in the two language papers (Use of English and Use of Chinese) and a pass result in the Aptitude Test in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent (Note 2); and (c) be fluent in spoken Chinese (Cantonese and preferably in Putonghua) and spoken English (Note 3 –4).

Notes:
Note 1: Candidates should attach copies of official transcripts and degree certificates to their applications.
Note 2: Results in the Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE) papers are classified as ‘Level 2’, ‘Level 1’ or ‘Fail’, with ‘Level 2’ being the highest. Results in the Aptitude Test (AT) paper are classified as pass or fail. Grade ‘C’ or above and Grade ‘D’ in Use of English of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE), or equivalent, are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ and ‘Level 1’ results respectively in the UE paper of the CRE. Grade ‘C’ or above and Grade ‘D’ in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the HKALE are accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ and ‘Level 1’ results respectively in the UC paper of the CRE. An overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within two-year validity period of the test is accepted as equivalent to ‘Level 2’ result in the Use of English paper of the CRE. The IELTS test result must be valid on the starting day of the application period, i.e. 10 November 2007.
Note 3: Candidates should state in their application forms their knowledge of any dialects in addition to Cantonese. Note 4: Selected candidates will be required to take an interpretation test, a translation test and attend an interview. Those who are selected for the tests and interview will normally receive an invitation letter one week in advance.

Appointment: New recruits will be appointed on civil service probationary terms for 3 years. Those who pass the probation satisfactorily may be appointed on civil service agreement terms for 3 years.
