Satisfying freelance job

I did a freelance SI for a focus group on Wed for a large French group, but I didn't do it in french (I know my level is not there yet). It was a very different experience, because it was held in a hotel instead of the office where I usually go to for focus group interpretation. And this is the first time which the clients sat right next to me and took notes (non-stop) from my interpretation. She would even clarify with me for points she didn't hear clearly (while I was interpreting!).

The group was a group of 7 males with a facilitator speaking in Cantonese, and I interpreted Simultaneously into English, it wasn't a very difficult task for me although they often talked at the same time. I had experience interpreting this kind of jobs.

I was so glad that the client was satisfied with my performance, I really couldn't express that great sense of satisfaction I got from it. I know this is what I want to do for life - Interpretation.

Let's see what I found from Wiki about focus group interpreter:

Focus group (marketing) interpreting
In focus group interpreting, an interpreter sits in a sound proof booth or in an observer's room with the clients. There is usually a
one-way mirror between the interpreter and the focus group participants, wherein the interpreter can observe the participants, but they only see their own reflection. The interpreter hears the conversation in the original language through headphones and simultaneously interprets into the target language for the clients. Since there are usually anywhere between 2 to 12 (or more) participants in any given focus group, experienced interpreters will not only interpret the phrases and meanings but will also mimic intonation, speech patterns, tone, laughs, and emotions.
